Teito Klein é um ex-escravo que agora freqüenta academia militar Império Barsburg o devido à sua capacidade de usar Zaiphon, um tipo de poder sobrenatural. The ability is rare and thus highly prized. A capacidade é raro e, portanto, altamente valorizada. Teito is amnesiac and doesn´t remember anything of his past, but he has recurring and often traumatizing dreams in which he sees a grand church or castle and a familiar but unknown man. Teito é amnésia e não lembra de nada do seu passado, mas ele tem e muitas vezes traumatizante sonhos recorrentes em que ele vê uma grande igreja ou um castelo e um homem desconhecido, mas familiar.
After a year at the academy, Teito prepares to take the notoriously difficult graduation exam. Depois de um ano na academia, Teito se prepara para fazer o exame de graduação notoriamente difícil. The night before the exam, Teito and his best (and only) friend, Mikage, swear they will never abandon each other if either needs help. A noite antes do exame, Teito e seu melhor amigo (e única), Mikage, juram que nunca vai abandonar um ao outro se quer precisa de ajuda. Both of them pass the exam. Ambos passar no exame. The next day, Teito hears people talking about him; stopping to listen, he suddenly realizes that the speaker, Chief of Staff, Ayanami, is the person who killed the familiar man in his dreams, who is his father and the king of the destroyed Raggs Kingdom. No dia seguinte, Teito ouve as pessoas falando sobre ele, parando para escutar, de repente ele percebe que o falante, Chefe de Gabinete, Ayanami, é a pessoa que matou o homem familiar em seus sonhos, que é seu pai, o rei da destruição Raggs Unido. Teito is found eavesdropping and tries to attack his father´s murderer but is quickly brought down by one of Ayanami´s subordinates and sent to prison. Teito é encontrado escutas e tenta atacar o assassino de seu pai, mas é rapidamente derrubado por um dos subordinados de Ayanami e enviado para a prisão. Mikage comes to help him escape, only to find that Teito has managed to fight past the guards by himself. Mikage vem para ajudá-lo escapar, apenas para descobrir que Teito conseguiu lutar pelos guardas por si mesmo. The two flee the building but are cornered on a balcony. Os dois fogem do edifício, mas são encurralados em uma varanda. Teito pretends to hold Mikage hostage, threatening to kill him if the guards pursue him, and thus makes his escape, though he is wounded by a Zaiphon blast that Ayanami directs at him. Teito finge segurar Mikage refém, ameaçando matá-lo se os guardas persegui-lo, e assim faz a sua fuga, mas ele é ferido por uma explosão Zaiphon Ayanami que dirige para ele. Three bishops in the nearby 7th District discover the injured Teito and take him to the 7th District church to recuperate. Três bispos no Distrito próximos 7 Teito descobrir os feridos e levá-lo para a igreja do 7 º Distrito para se recuperar. Because of the 7th District´s law of sanctuary, as long as Teito stays in the church, the army cannot arrest him. Por causa da lei do 7 º Distrito de santuário, enquanto permanece Teito na igreja, o exército não pode prendê-lo.
In due time, it is discovered that Teito carries the Eye of Mikhail , a powerful talisman for which his home country, the Raggs Kingdom, was destroyed. Em devido tempo, descobriu-se que Teito carrega o Olho de Mikhail, um talismã poderoso para que o seu país de origem, o Reino Raggs, foi destruído. This fact, as well as his fateful reunion with Mikage, catapults Teito into a quest for revenge against the Barsburg Empire and for knowledge about his past. Este fato, bem como seu reencontro com o fatídico Mikage, catapultas Teito em busca de vingança contra o Império Barsburg e para o conhecimento sobre o seu passado. At the same time, his status as the bearer of the Eye of Mikhail throws him into the long-standing conflict between the evil Verloren and his enemies, the 07 Ghosts. Ao mesmo tempo, seu status como o portador do Olho de Mikhail atira no pé-longo conflito entre o Verloren mal e os seus inimigos, os 07 fantasmas.
